Lupus
Description
Lupus, or Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks its own tissues, causing inflammation and damage in various parts of the body. It can affect the skin, joints, kidneys, brain, heart, and lungs. Common symptoms include fatigue, joint pain, skin rashes, especially a butterfly-shaped rash across the cheeks, fever, and hair loss. Lupus is more common in women, particularly of childbearing age, and its cause remains unknown, though genetics, hormones, and environmental factors are implicated. Treatment focuses on symptom relief and preventing flare-ups with medications like anti-inflammatories, steroids, and immunosuppressants. Lifestyle adjustments, including avoiding sun exposure and maintaining good health practices, are also important.
