Laryngitis

Description

Laryngitis is the inflammation of the larynx (voice box), which often results from viral infections, such as the common cold, or from overuse of the voice. It can cause symptoms like a hoarse voice, sore throat, difficulty speaking, and sometimes coughing. Acute laryngitis typically lasts for a short period and improves with rest, hydration, and avoiding irritants. Chronic laryngitis, which persists for more than three weeks, may be due to irritants such as smoking, acid reflux, or allergies and may require more specific treatments like medications or voice therapy. In rare cases, chronic laryngitis can be a sign of an underlying condition, such as vocal cord cancer.
