Cushing's Syndrome
Description
Cushing's syndrome is a hormonal disorder caused by prolonged exposure to high levels of cortisol, often due to an overproduction by the adrenal glands or the use of corticosteroid medications. Symptoms include weight gain, particularly around the abdomen and face, thinning skin, purple stretch marks, high blood pressure, and mood changes. Cushing's syndrome can result from tumors in the pituitary or adrenal glands, or from excessive use of steroids. Treatment may involve surgery, radiation therapy, or medications to control cortisol production.
