Diverticulitis
Description
Diverticulitis occurs when small, bulging pouches (diverticula) in the colon become inflamed or infected. These pouches form in weakened areas of the colon wall and can cause symptoms such as abdominal pain, fever, nausea, and changes in bowel habits. Diverticulitis can range from mild to severe and can lead to complications like perforation, abscess formation, or bowel obstruction. The condition is often managed with antibiotics, a temporary liquid diet, and in severe cases, surgery. To prevent diverticulitis, a high-fiber diet is recommended.
