Gastric Cancer
Description
Gastric cancer, also known as stomach cancer, develops in the lining of the stomach and often goes undiagnosed until it reaches an advanced stage. The exact cause of gastric cancer is unclear, but certain risk factors increase the likelihood of developing it, including infection with Helicobacter pylori, a family history of stomach cancer, smoking, and a diet high in salty or smoked foods. Symptoms of gastric cancer include unexplained weight loss, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and difficulty swallowing. Treatment usually involves a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, but the prognosis is generally poor, as the cancer is often diagnosed late.
