Cardiomyopathy
Description
Cardiomyopathy refers to diseases of the heart muscle that impair the heart’s ability to pump blood effectively. There are several types of cardiomyopathy, including dilated, hypertrophic, and restrictive forms. The causes vary and may include genetic factors, high blood pressure, heart attacks, or viral infections. Symptoms include fatigue, shortness of breath, swelling in the legs, and irregular heartbeats. Treatment may include medications, lifestyle changes, and in severe cases, heart transplants or the use of implantable devices like pacemakers.
