Leukemia
Description
Leukemia is a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow, leading to the overproduction of abnormal white blood cells. These cells do not function properly, impairing the body’s ability to fight infections. There are several types of leukemia, including acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), and chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). Symptoms can include fatigue, frequent infections, easy bruising or bleeding, and weight loss. The exact cause of leukemia is unclear, but genetic mutations and environmental factors like radiation exposure can increase risk. Treatment often involves chemotherapy, radiation, stem cell transplants, and targeted therapies.
