Dementia
Description
Dementia is a general term for a decline in cognitive function severe enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer's disease is the most common form, but other types include vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia, and Lewy body dementia. Symptoms include memory loss, confusion, difficulty with problem-solving, and changes in mood or behavior. Dementia is caused by damage to brain cells, often due to diseases like Alzheimer's, stroke, or Parkinson's. While there is no cure, treatment focuses on managing symptoms, improving quality of life, and supporting caregivers. Medications and therapy may help with memory, mood, and functioning.
